Honors Mentors Program

The Honors College Mentors Program provides all incoming first-year honors students with an upperclassman mentor to assist with the transition to college.

Throughout the year, mentors will build meaningful connections, foster community, and encourage engagement across campus. The vision for the program is that these connections will grow into lasting and valuable relationships among Honors College students.

At the beginning of the year, the college hosts a Meet Your Mentor event where mentors and incoming students meet one another and begin forming the mentoring relationship. The goal is to create matches that feel natural and supportive while helping first-year students immediately begin building a network within the college.

In addition to supporting our first-year students, the Mentors Program serves as a leadership opportunity for upperclassmen. Upperclass Honors students who serve as mentors typically:

  • Work with approximately 5-8 first-year students
  • Check in with mentees multiple times a month
  • Encourage participation in Honors College and campus events
  • Share advice based on their own experiences
  • Help answer everyday questions that new students may feel uncomfortable asking faculty or staff
