Opportunity for aspiring chemistry researchers
Do you know of an Honors College students with a passion for chemistry who are interested in research? Hanna Kosnik’s computational chemistry lab is looking for a new addition!
All of our research deals with compounds; they’re just on the computer.
The research would be done within Dr. Andrew Sargent’s lab on the 5th floor in SciTech. Our focus is computational modeling on a Linux operating system so we need students who are tech savvy and have both physics and chemistry backgrounds. A chemistry major is not required but some of the information that is learned in this research lab does translate to the upper level chemistry classes. There is a steep learning curve with the commands and prompts the student will need to learn.
Typically, the time commitment will vary by the student. Since this is a dry lab, the experiments can work around the student’s schedule. Dr. Sargent has allowed me to gain research credit through it as well so it also depends on the amount of credits the course is worth. I spend anywhere from 3 to 10 hours in the lab a week.
