See 'Alash' perform and attend lunch and learn with beatboxer Shodekeh
Something awesome this way comes.
The Tuvan ensemble Alash will perform in concert with the American beatboxer Shodekeh this week on Thursday, October 24 in Wright Auditorium at 7:30 pm. If you would like a free ticket, there are 20 of them in the front office of the Honors College. Nab one. If y’all need more, go to the Student Center, approach the Central Ticket Office window, use your ‘in command voice’ and utter the top secret codephrase: “I hear that you are doling out Alash tickets like candy.” With a Onecard, you’ll give a ticket. (Do this by 5:00 pm on Thursday or pay $36 at the door.)
At noon on Wednesday, October 23, the beatboxer Shodekeh is hosting a lunch and learn at a top secret central location. The topic of the session is “Making a Living While Making a Life.” Shodekeh went to TEDx Baltimore. He met Alash. They invited him to an international throat singing competition. Shodekeh went to Tuva and competed. He might have won. They made a documentary about him (Shu-De!, or Giddy-Up!). So this lunch is about taking artistic risks, collaboration, knowing when to leave Baltimore to go compete as a beatboxer among the throat singers, the gigging economy, and whatever else you want it to be about. If you’ve got an hour, you’ll get a sammich and some wisdom. Email cranemi@ecu.edu to RSVP. When you RSVP, I’ll tell you where to show up.
On Tuesday, October 22, Sean Quirk, the tour manager (who also happens to be a Fulbright Scholar, a musician, an interpreter, and part-time resident of Tuva), will deliver a lecture, “The Republic of Tuva” at the East Carolina Heart Institute auditorium at 7:00 pm. It’s free for you. Remember the top secret codephrase.
