Dana Shefet at Yale

Dana Shefet at Yale University, Summer 2019.

Dana Shefet, a junior EC Scholar, attended the Sherwin B. Nuland Summer Institute in Bioethics this summer. Here’s what she had to say about the experience:

This past summer, I was fortunate enough to attend Yale University’s Sherwin B. Nuland 7-week intensive Summer Institute in Bioethics. I spent my days attending lectures given by esteemed faculty and professionals and participating in seminars with my peers from all over the globe.

Bioethics is one of the most applicable and diverse fields I have ever been exposed to- philosophy, biology, law, medicine, research, humanities, and more all wrapped into one! This summer pushed me to think about the world around me in a different lens and I left inspired, experienced, and with a more thought-provoking mindset than I ever had before.

Summer Institute in Bioethics
(7-week intensive from June 8 – July 25, 2019; limited # seats for 4-week option)
“This was simply the best investment to help me fine-tune my career choices.”

Now in its 15th year, and intended for undergrads through professionals, the Summer Institute is known for its engaging and approachable faculty, enthusiastic alumni network, & opportunities to network with faculty and participants from all over the globe.  Choose from over twenty small, intensive seminars  (on topics including neuroethics, law, moral reasoning, technology, social justice,  global health, end-of-life care, and animal ethics), bioethics movie nights, and selected events in Spanish or French for native speakers.  Visit the esteemed Hastings Center & present a poster at the Yale School of Medicine.  This program may serve as the launching ground to a rewarding career in bioethics: recent alumni of the Summer Institute have presented their work at bioethics and philosophy conferences at Oxford, the American Society of Bioethics, UNESCO, and many other locations, and have published in top medical and bioethics journals.

  • $2,050 undergraduates, $2,375 graduate students, $2,525 young professionals, $3,500 advanced professionals
  • Early bird rates to those who apply by Nov. 15th
  • We encourage applications by Dec. 15, but rolling admissions will continue through the spring as space allows.
