Honors students crowned Homecoming king and queen
Two Honors College students were crowned Homecoming King and Queen during East Carolina University’s 2019 Homecoming celebrations.
Taylor Chappell of Alpha Omicron Pi was named queen and Noah Rogers of Sigma Nu was crowned king.
“I was so honored to be crowned the 2019 Homecoming Queen,” said Chappell. “Words truly cannot express the level of pride and love I feel towards this university. This role is something to be taken very seriously and reflects upon the university at all times. It is with the utmost integrity, courage, and respect that I will demonstrate the values of ECU.”
Chappell, a senior accounting major, was nominated by her sorority to run for queen. She accepted the nomination because she felt she could demonstrate the values of ECU and its people.
Those very same people are what Chappell loves the most about ECU. “No matter where you go, on campus or in a different state, you can see the Pirate Pride,” she said. “Each member of Pirate Nation has something unique to offer and we bring all of those strengths together to make a cohesive and positive community. ECU is not just for four years, it’s for life, and the people here live that in their daily actions.”
Rogers agreed with Chappell about the strength of ECU’s community. “Pirates come together like no other group I have ever seen!” he said.
His nomination to Homecoming court as Sigma Nu’s representative was a little last-minute. “I wanted all of the many valuable experiences I have had at ECU to be reflected through Homecoming,” said Rogers, a senior mechanical engineering major.
Being crowned was an amazing experience, according to Rogers. “ECU has given so much to me, and to be recognized as Homecoming king has been the pinnacle of my experiences here,” he said. “It was truly a breathtaking moment.”
