STEM-Corps East is a national service AmeriCorps program that is focused on supporting in-school and afterschool tutoring and enrichment activities to increase student interest and achievement in math and science classes.  The program is a university, school, and community partnership that recruits 108 high school and college students to serve as tutors for approximately 1,000 students in our four county service areas.

We believe strongly in our mission to help students link classroom learning and real-world problem solving, master STEM concepts and skills necessary to succeed in STEM classes and gain knowledge about STEM career pathways. We seek to help all students in eastern North Carolina to successfully excel in the classroom, graduate from high school, seek higher education and be career ready to pursue pathways leading to employment in STEM- related careers.  Our current community partners include: Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain, A Time for Science, Aurora Fossil Museum, Inner Banks STEM Center, Love of a Sea Turtle, Police Athletic League (PAL) and Greenville Community Garden!  They are looking for dedicated STEM-Corps EAST members to serve their youth in afterschool and summer STEM camp settings.

What positions are available for the Spring and Summer? Priority placements are open until December 13, 2019!

All positions must be completed by August 31, 2020. There are two types of positions available the spring semester and summer starting now.

  • Option 1: Quarter-time serves 10-20 hours per week over the program year (450 total hours), earn a monthly living allowance of at least $2,550 and at the end of the service year earn an education award of $1,638.
  • Option 2: Minimum-time serves 8-12 hours per week over the program year (300 hours) and at the end of the service year earn an education award of $1,311.

What are the requirements?

An individual must be 17 years or older, a U.S. citizen or U.S. national or lawful permanent resident alien in the United States, successfully complete background checks, and have a high school diploma, GED and or/ enrolled in an approved educational program.
