Makers, Meetings & Motivation (4/2 Update)

Happy Thursday Honors Community!

We have several virtual opportunities available for you today. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the listed contact beside each. We also have several tips for how to stay motivated through this time.

Honors College updates:

  • For all of our students who are completing their Signature Honors Project, you can find instructions for uploading it on page 9 of the Student SHP Manual. (Note: You will need to create an account, according to Joyner Library.) Contact: Jim Ellis, ellisja@ecu.edu
  • Are you interested in a year-long paid residency that gives you the opportunity to create visual artwork and serve as an ambassador to the arts for the Honors College? If so, apply for the 2020-21 Makers Arts Residency. Contact Tanner Ruffin (ruffint17@students.ecu.edu) for more information.
  • Join us for the first ever Fridays with Fraley at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow (4/3). Fraley will discuss the recent grade accommodation and answer fun questions (the more fun questions you ask, the more shirts he’ll have to put on!). Join the Zoom meeting (https://zoom.us/j/167712455 or Meeting ID: 167 712 455). Contact Maggie Baile (bailem18@students.ecu.edu) if you have questions.
  • The HNRS 2000/3000 instructional team is still looking for undergraduate research assistants for the 2020-21 year. You can use this research as part of your Signature Honors Project. Find the application on the Honors College blog. Apps due on April 15 to Dr. Bhibha Das.

Are you having problems staying motivated and up to date on projects and due dates? If so, here are some tips that can help you out:

  1. Pretend. Act like you’re still in your regular routing. Wake up early instead of sleeping in late. Eat a healthy breakfast. Set up your “learning environment” somewhere that isn’t your bed. Doing all of these help you create that school/home distinction that will help you stay focused.
  2. Set small daily goals. Create that to-do list or checklist with five things that you want to focus on each day. Make sure that one of them is personal and not for school. If one of them is big (such as writing a 10-page paper), break it down in smaller steps. That way, you can mark more things off of your list and give yourself that feeling of accomplishment.
  3. Remember to take a break. If you have days where you’re not as productive, that is totally OK. Reach for support if you need it.

All of us in the Honors College are here for you and ready to support you. Let us know if you have questions, concerns or need someone to talk to you.
