Notes, News & Staying Indoors (4/6 Updates)

Good afternoon Honors Community!

We have university updates to share with you as well as how you can celebrate our seniors and the “Do’s and Don’ts of Staying Indoors.”

Honors College updates:

  • Since we are not holding a Medallion Ceremony to honor our Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 graduates this month, we are working on other ways to honor our seniors. If you would like to send a note to any of our graduating seniors, you can write a note virtually via this Qualtrics survey:https://ecu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bBDLfPxflIHYBCd

University updates:

  • Many of you were interested in refunds for housing and dining. ECU is providing them and has also created an FAQ about the refunds. If you have additional questions about refunds, email COVID19@ecu.edu and use the subject line “ECU Housing/Dining Refund Question.”
  • Student Affairs sent out an update today announcing that all University-sponsored camps, clinics, activities or programs associated with any University unit, department or organization (on or off University property) are canceled until June 30, 2020. This includes, but is not limited to, academic, student affairs and athletics programs. For more information and contact information for the heads of youth, athletic and residential camps/conferences, visit the Camps and Conferences Update page.
  • The Cashier’s Office, located in the Old Cafeteria building, will be open for face-to-face student and departmental services on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30-10:30 a.m. All other cashier-related student services will be conducted daily through remote communications by phone at (252) 737-6886 or by email at cashier@ecu.edu.

Staying Inside: Do’s and Don’ts (A Guide by Beth Evans)

  • Do give your space to feel what you’re feeling.
  • Don’t force yourself to find a silver lining – you might end up more frustrated or emotionally drained.
  • Do concentrate on what needs to be done today.
  • Don’t plan far into the future – we don’t know what will happen, which is scary, and planning far ahead can be really stressful.
  • Do pick an activity that gives you a break from the news cycle.
  • Don’t feel like you have to master five thousand new things or complete your life’s work.
  • Do give yourself a break – it’s a stressful time and impossible to be perfect.
  • Don’t forget you’re real, valid and very needed in this chaos!

All of us in the Honors College are here for you and ready to support you. Let us know if you have questions, concerns or need someone to talk to you.
