Cupola Conversations - July 16, 2020 | Driving Out Darkness: Students Empowering Students

ECU will host the third installment of a special summer (and virtual) Cupola Conversation on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 4pm. We continue to hear Pirate Nation loudly and clearly. The conversation about systemic racism and inequity must not stop here, and we must continue this dialogue and identify next steps for impactful and lasting change.

In June, Cupola Conversations focused on “Influencing Change” and “Breaking Down Barriers.”  The panelists included students, law enforcement officers, faculty, administrators, and community members.

ECU students and student leaders will be the complete focal point of the July 16, 4:00 pm Cupola Conversation entitled, “Driving Out Darkness: Students Empowering Students.”

We want to continue this much needed dialogue, identifying ways that we can address concerns, challenges, and limitations as we all tackle free speech issues, protests, policies, or even our daily routines.

The panelists are:

  • Lilah El-Halabi – SAB
  • Tyrell Govan – Black Student Union
  • Zoe Lukas – Student Media
  • AJ Modlin—ECU Ambassadors
  • Tucker Robbins – SGA

On July 16 at 4:00 pm click this link to join this special Cupola Conversation.

This will be open to the entire campus as well as the general public, and participants will be able to type in questions as part of the conversation. (Note: Not all questions and comments will be included in the program).

ECU and the Division of Student Affairs will have more programs and opportunities throughout the summer and into the fall. An ECUnited Steering Committee has been formed that includes representation of the entire campus so that we can continue to provide strong programming that meets the needs of our students, faculty, staff and community.

To paraphrase Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., darkness cannot drive out darkness. We can only do that by shining a light.
