2021 Australia Study Abroad Sport and Social Change with Dr. Warner and Dr. Fraley
COVID-19 STATEMENT: ECU is committed to preparing students to succeed in today’s global, multicultural society by offering engaging, high impact learning activities such as study abroad. Despite current conditions that prevent international travel, we continue to promote and plan in hopes conditions will allow students, faculty, and staff to safely participate in study abroad this spring and summer. As we assess the viability of programs abroad, ECU and the Office of Global Affairs will follow all federal, state, UNC system guidance in making these important decisions.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This course aims to provide an overview of sport in Australia and the role of sport has played in society. Students will visit and meet with Australia sport organizations including professional teams, amateur sport organizations, international sport federations, and corporate sport entities in an effort to better understand sport history, organizational and institutional structure, cultural patterns, and the dynamics of sport in Australia. Specifically, the purpose of this program is to examine the societal impact sport within Australia society has had; the social organization from amateur to professional sport; sport operations in the global economy; media and marketing of sport in Australia; and the cultural implications of sports.
