Nov. 3, 10, 17 – What’s the Tea? A weekly series that encourages civil discourse on various hot topics within society. Participants are encouraged to share their different perspectives at the Ledonia Wright Cultural Center, a safe place for all Pirates. Nov. 4, 11 – Coffee House Group. Coffee House Group is an informal weekly psychoeducational and virtual social gathering for students hosted by the Dr. Jesse R. Peel LGBTQ Center. Through group discussion and engaging activities, weekly meetings aim to build community while learning about topics impacting LGBTQ students and allies in a safe and supportive environment. The group covers topics such as identity development, intersectionality, relationship success, and healthy habits. | 6pm, register on Engage to receive WebEx link.
Nov. 5 – Healing Space: Racial Trauma Support Group. Healing Space is a virtual program created for students of color to discuss racial trauma and the effects of microaggressions. | 3pm, register on Engage to receive WebEx link.
Nov. 5 – Take Back the Night. Students, faculty, staff, and community members can RSVP on Engage to participate in a march through campus in a unified effort against sexual violence and in support of survivors of sexual violence. The walk has been held annually since 2015 during Pledge Purple Week. Feel free to bring your own signs or use a pre-made sign. Nov. 9 – Diversity Dialogues Series: Gerrymandering. The Diversity Dialogue Series (DDS) is a virtual monthly event with the Ledonia Wright Cultural Center that centers around issues of difference, diversity, identity, and social justice. The series connects students through informal conversations regarding pressing issues of identity and experience on campus and within the context of the United States. | 3pm, register on Engage to receive WebEx link.
Nov. 9 – Barbershop Talks. Barbershop Talks is a leadership series that helps male-identified students from underrepresented backgrounds connect and share experiences. Seeking to mirror the realism experienced in a traditional barbershop, it provides a place for conversation and dialogue about the challenges and resources available to males of color. This is a recurring series that the Ledonia Wright Cultural Center hosts every other Monday. | 6pm, register on Engage to receive WebEx link.
Nov. 9 – Queer Film Series: “DISCLOSURE.” This is the third feature in the Queer Film Series, presented by the Dr. Jesse R. Peel LGBTQ Center as part of Transgender Awareness Month. “DISCLOSURE” is an unprecedented, eye-opening look at transgender depictions in film and television, revealing how Hollywood simultaneously reflects and manufactures our deepest anxieties about gender. | 7pm, register on Engage to receive WebEx link.
Nov. 10 – Moving Beyond Myth: Acknowledging & Celebrating Indigenous People in the South. Join ECNAO, the Ledonia Wright Cultural Center, and the Office for Equity and Diversity for a celebration of Native American Heritage Month. Brittany Hunt, from the Lumbee Tribe, will host an interactive virtual workshop about deconstructing myths about Indigenous people and Indigenous identity, particularly in the South. | 6pm, register on Engage to receive Zoom link.
Nov. 10 – Grad PIRATE Talks: The Many Faces of Feminism. The Graduate and Professional Student Senate, the Graduate School, and the Office for Equity and Diversity will host a multidisciplinary virtual seminar series called “Grad PIRATE Talks: Promoting Inclusion through Research, Action, Teaching, and Education.” | 6:30pm, register on Engageto receive WebEx link.
Nov. 11 – Get CulturED: Nigeria. Get CulturED is a series aimed at providing education surrounding various cultural identities. Each virtual event will focus and explore a different culture, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the culture and leave with a better understanding and appreciation of the highlighted culture. | 6pm, register on Engage to receive WebEx link.
Nov. 12 – Queer/Trans* People of Color (QTPOC). A partnership between the Dr. Jesse R. Peel LGBTQ Center and Ledonia Wright Cultural Center, is a discussion group that meets bimonthly. The virtual sessions cover different topics related to the intersection of identities of being a part of the LGBTQ community and a person of color. QTPOC offers the opportunity to learn more about yourself and meet other students. | 4pm, register on Engage to receive WebExlink.
Nov. 13 – Feminist Friday. Feminist Friday is a recurring virtual event every other Friday with the Women and Gender Office. It is a time to talk about an event or topic that is relevant in today’s society. The topic will be chosen close to the event, as there are many things that could happen that we would love to talk about. | 2pm, join on Instagram Live @ECU_WGO.
Nov. 14 – SNMA’s Pre-Medical Conference. SNMA’s biggest event of the fall is this month! Join us for our annual Pre-Medical Conference. Pre-Medical students have the opportunity to virtually experience our pathology lab, anatomy lab, medical simulations, mock interviews, and more at the Brody School of Medicine! Nov. 16 – “The Privileged Poor” Faculty Virtual Book Club. Participants will discuss the book “The Privileged Poor: How Elite Colleges Are Failing Disadvantaged Students” by Anthony Abraham Jack in a 3-part discussion. This book reveals how–and why–disadvantaged students struggle at elite colleges and explains what schools can do differently if these students are to thrive. Nov. 17 – Transgender Day of Remembrance Virtual Ceremony. Join the Dr. Jesse R.
