Honors Communication Student Worker Job

The Honors College is seeking an Honors student for our Communications and Marketing student worker position who is interested in and preferably has experience in journalism, writing, communication and social media.

This individual will work closely with Kristen Martin, the director of communications for the Honors College. The applicant must be comfortable working on projects for both the Honors College and EC Scholars program. This position has the opportunity for students to create a portfolio of writing samples, social media campaigns and photography/videography clips.

A large portion of this student’s duties will be brainstorming and creating content for Honors & EC Scholars social media accounts, assisting with writing stories for the blog and newsletter, including profiles on students and alumni.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with

  • social media platforms Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and TikTok
  • the Adobe Creative Suite, including PhotoShop, Premiere Pro and InDesign
  • the graphic design platform Canva

The ideal candidate will be outgoing and willing to be a part of photos and videos for social media and marketing materials.

Required qualifications:

  • Ability to interview students, faculty, alumni, etc.
  • Ability to write stories by assigned dates
  • Ability to set appropriate deadlines and meet them
  • Ability to be creative and generate ideas for social media, content, etc.
  • Confidentiality, professionalism, trustworthiness, fair judgment, and impartiality
  • Ability to get along with others and work in team settings
  • Ability to work independently and manage time wisely

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in news writing, creative writing and communications skills
  • Technically sound in grammar and spelling; knowledge of AP style
  • Comfortable taking photos and videos for social media

First and second year students are encouraged to apply. This job will consist of a 10 hour a week schedule (potentially 15 as funds allow) at a rate of $10/hr. Students will have the ability to create a weekly schedule per semester around their class schedule.
