Student Health Coaches Needed

The Fresh Start program is seeking additional student health coaches. This is an awesome opportunity to gain patient care experience while providing transformative health-promoting care to a vulnerable population!

Our primary need is more Spanish-speaking health coaches to support our Spanish-speaking patients enrolled in the program, but we can also take more English-speaking health coaches. Volunteering as a health coach provides valuable experience for any student with aspirations to provide patient care in the future.

Fresh Start is a grant-funded program that partners with free community clinics to support rural, uninsured individuals in Eastern NC with diabetes or prediabetes (see ppt link at the bottom below for further information). The program provides a free produce prescription, group classes with culinary medicine and physical activity, and individualized health coaching provided by trained pre-professional undergraduate students at ECU.

Interested students will need to do the following:

  • Complete this basic application: https://forms.gle/qsrBr3xVJf2P9HcE9 by November 15th.
  • Attend 4 virtual trainings, all 9:30-11:00, 12/15, 12/16, and then 1/5 and 1/6.
  • Complete CITI training and epirate profiles by November 30th. Email both sastrel18@ecu.edu and stroudb22@ecu.edu screen shots to demonstrate that they have completed BOTH (links below).

Here is a link to an onboarding PowerPoint to provide more context for our work.
