Marshall-Motley Scholars Program application open

The Marshall-Motley Scholars Program (MMSP) is a groundbreaking commitment to invest in a new generation of civil rights lawyers trained to provide legal advocacy on behalf of black communities throughout the South. Through scholarship support, legal fellowships, and professional mentoring, the MMSP aids in equipping and preparing these aspiring lawyers as they pursue racial justice and equity in that region of the country. Over the next two decades, this ambitious and unique program is committed to creating the next generation of racial justice advocates through the development of 50 new civil rights lawyers. To date, 20 scholarships have been granted with over $2 million awarded.

The MMSP Application Guide outlines the eligibility and benefits for the program and provides details about each component of the application process. Please feel free to also view our Brochure and visit our website for an overview of MMSP and the Legal Defense Fund’s commitment to civil rights advancement.

The application will remain open until 11:59 pm EST on February 6th, 2023. To better aid prospective applicants, we will be conducting live office hours and releasing recorded virtual sessions through the application cycle.
