This year’s finalists represent three states and 31 North Carolina counties. They are athletes, artists, musicians, animators, environmental advocates, published authors and poets, and volunteer firefighters. They have displayed interest in 25 different majors across eight ECU colleges.

Finalists have proven themselves academically and beyond by becoming private pilots, holding second degree black belts, winning the Girl Scout Gold award, piloting drones, studying abroad as high school students, and more.

The 48 finalists were part of a 700-person applicant pool before reaching ECU’s campus for Selection Sunday.  Approximately 100 faculty conducted multiple rounds of application review. During Selection Sunday, finalists will partake in various activities to learn more about EC Scholars including an individual finalist interview, current scholar showcase, and panel discussion. They will also be able to learn more from current EC Scholars and program alumni.
