There are a few on-campus federal work-study jobs for the spring for students interested in medicine/STEM.

Federal Work Study – Lab Assistant for CHEM 1151 & 1161

ECU Department of Chemistry is seeking a Lab Assistant for the set-up and preparation of materials used in Chem 1151 and Chem 1161 teaching labs. Lab assistants are responsible for setting-up, maintaining and cleaning the teaching laboratories, and also for the preparation of reagents. Successful candidates must be able to follow safety rules and protocols, work independently, be detail-oriented, responsible, and have availability during the day on Monday and/or Friday in at least two-hour blocks.

Students should have successfully completed 1151 and 1161.
Chemistry/Biochemistry majors are especially encouraged to apply.

Federal Work Study – Office Assistant for Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at the Brody School of Medicine

ECU’s Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery is currently seeking to hire a Federal Work Study student as an Office Assistant to assist the Trauma Fellowship Coordinator for approximately 10-15 hours/week (days can vary).

The Office Assistant will provide administrative support to the Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery Fellowship Program at ECU Brody School of Medicine. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, organized, and proactive work-study student interested in gaining experience in a medical or academic setting. The position involves assisting with a variety of clerical tasks, managing program-related documentation, and supporting program staff and fellows.

Key responsibilities include administrative support, communication, data management, and other miscellaneous tasks.

Skills preferred:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); effective written & verbal communication
  • Attention to detail: high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks
  • Confidentiality: ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Interpersonal skills: ability to work well with diverse groups of people including fellows, faculty and administrative staff

Federal Work Study – Lab Assistant for BIOL 1051 & 1101

ECU Department of Biology is currently seeking several Lab Assistants to help set up and maintain material for BIOL 1051 and BIOL 1101 lab courses. This position requires basic science knowledge, organizational skills, working independently, and working in a group setting. This position will include washing glassware, caring for small organisms, and making solutions.
