Campus Organizing Fellow Job Available

North Carolina Conservation Network is seeking candidates for Campus Organizing Fellows in North Carolina. The fellowship is 6-10 hours per week of on campus organizing in both the fall and spring semesters. This is a paid position that will include public outreach to students and the community regarding environmental issues such as forever chemical pollution (PFAS), climate action, and environmental justice efforts in North Carolina. Fellows will also engage in non-partisan get-out-the-vote efforts on campus.

Campus Organizing Fellows will receive first-hand experience working for a statewide environmental nonprofit. Fellows will develop leadership skills, engage with their peers on campus, collaborate with other students across the state, and advocate for North Carolina’s communities and environment.

Responsibilities

Raising awareness of important environmental issues in North Carolina through local events, presentations, and tabling
Encouraging students and community members to act on issues by signing petitions, emailing legislators, or attending events
Recruiting new volunteers who are passionate about environmental and health issues
Identifying and collaborating with other leaders on campus
Working with allied groups and students to amplify non-partisan voter education campaigns
Educating students and the community about where/when/how to vote

Qualifications

Required: Must be a student at a university in North Carolina. Students must be currently enrolled at their university and must be vaccinated for COVID-19 as there will be in-person interactions with the community.

Ideal:

Ideal candidates will have a major, minor or strong interest in communications, political science, environmental studies or public policy
Knowledge and comfort with public speaking and asking people to take action on environmental issues
Ability to work as part of a team and engage volunteers
Interest in environmental advocacy, environmental justice, and public health issues – especially those impacting North Carolina
Working knowledge of the dynamics of your campus and the socio-political climate of North Carolina
Undergraduate students who have at least two semesters remaining

Salary/Benefits: Fellows receive a stipend of $150 per week.

Application Instructions

The fellowship will be done on the students’ campus or in the nearby communities and includes mandatory weekly video meetings with our staff.
