Brinkley-Lane Scholars to host 49 finalists for Selection Sunday

Out of an impressive 900 applicants this year, the Brinkley-Lane Scholar’s program at East Carolina University will host its 49 finalists for Selection Sunday on Feb. 16.
These finalists are the best and brightest students from around the world who work to pursue excellence, collaboration, and service. These finalists come from 16 counties across North Carolina, along with two out-of-state students — one from California and one from Arkansas. Additionally, four international students add to the program’s reach. A few notable categories that these finalists belong to are artists, researchers, podcasters, published authors, and musicians.
With 21 majors across six different colleges, these finalists have shown many diverse interests. These have led them to unique achievements such as becoming a competitive poultry judge, mastering five languages, living on a sailboat, and placing 1st in the NC Girls State Chess Championship.
During Selection Sunday, these finalists will learn more about what the Brinkley-Lane Scholars program has to offer. In addition to their individual finalist interview, they will be able to see a current scholar showcase and panel discussion.
The Brinkley-Lane Scholars program is ECU’s most prestigious merit-based scholarship, valued at nearly $79,000, offering a fully-funded educational experience. Additionally, scholars will receive a $5,000 dollar study abroad stipend. Students will be granted access to faculty-led research, prestigious alumni connections, and high-impact service and engagement trips.
Current students and alumni of the program are SGA presidents, Google interns, researchers at Harvard and Yale, as well as graduate students at Columbia, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Brody School of Medicine.
