Underwater Archaeology lecture – Oct. 24

Join the ECU Department of History for the 2025 Lawrence F. Brewster Lecture, “Underwater Archaeology South of the Border: A Decade of Discovery,” by Dr. Roberto Junco of the Instituto Nacional de Antropología Historia, on October 25 from 6-7:30 p.m. in SciTech C307.

In the past two years, the Underwater Archaeology Unit at INAH has explored a variety of contexts across all periods of Mexican history. From high-altitude lakes to the sinkholes of the Yucatán Peninsula, a diverse range of projects illustrates Mexico’s rich underwater cultural heritage. Advancements in techniques and methodologies have enhanced our approach to studying underwater sites. Collaborations with other countries have allowed opportunities for INAH staff to deepen their understanding of their underwater histories. Today, Mexico stands as a leading example in the protection of underwater cultural heritage.
