Brinkley-Lane Scholars to host 50 finalists for Selection Sunday

Honor, tradition, and Pirate pride will commence February 15 on Selection Sunday, hosted by the East Carolina University Honors College. This milestone represents the journey that begins with over 1,000 Honors College invitations, narrows to 250 student commitments, and further funnels to just 50 Brinkley-Lane finalists and, finally, to 20 Scholars.
Selection Sunday will welcome 50 finalists, each with unique stories and incredible drive to pursue a future as a Brinkley-Lane Scholar. From research and creative activities to service and student involvement, the event’s itinerary offers a meaningful opportunity for finalists to gain a deeper understanding of the program. The event will also include interviews with ECU faculty, alumni, and friends of the Honors College, which will help determine each finalist’s future in the program.
As the most prestigious merit-based scholarship at ECU, the Brinkley-Lane Scholar program continues to attract students who truly stand out. This year’s finalists include individuals who have published research with the Duke University Toxicology Lab, a U.S. Air Force pilot, a two-time state cheerleading champion, and many more accomplished leaders. Representing 23 majors and 8 colleges, including students from Maryland and New Jersey, this cohort reflects the continued growth, reach, and competitiveness of the program.
Current Brinkley-Lane Scholars and alumni continue to distinguish themselves through service, research, and leadership. They have earned educational awards and endowments, secured high-profile internships with organizations like Oracle and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, and served in prominent campus leadership roles, including SGA President and even Homecoming Captain of the Ship. Their achievements have built lasting connections and meaningful impact for both themselves and the University, setting an inspiring standard and big shoes to fill for this year’s 20 Scholars.
