Paid undergraduate research position(s) in Human Performance Lab
This position is supported by a grant from the American Heart Association Institutional Research Enhancement Award (AIREA) and offers students the chance to gain hands-on research experience while contributing to an impactful, externally funded project.
Position Details:
Time commitment: 20 hours per week during the academic year
Compensation: Paid research position
Preferred start date: September 1, 2026
Location: Human Performance Lab, Ward Sports Medicine Building
Project Overview:
This project investigates how physiological stressors (vasodilation and apnea) affect arterial function and blood pressure regulation. The goal is to better understand mechanisms that contribute to cardiovascular risk and inform future prevention or intervention strategies.
Student Involvement:
Undergraduate researchers will be actively engaged in:
- Human subject data collection (including cardiovascular monitoring and exercise testing)
- Data processing and analysis
- Scientific dissemination (abstracts, posters/presentations, papers)
- Professional development (mentorship, graduate school preparation, and research skills training)
- This position is ideal for motivated students interested in physiology, pre-health pathways, biomedical research, or graduate training.
