2020 Summer Biomedical Research Program (SBRP) at BSOM
Apply today for the Summer Biomedical Research Program (SBRP), a Brody School of Medicine program at East Carolina University.
The SBRP is an intensive two-month research program that allows undergraduate students to conduct basic or clinical research in various laboratory at the Brody School of Medicine or the main campus. The program goal is to prepare the students to be competitive in a global multicultural world whether their aspiration is to join basic research or clinical fields. Therefore, in addition to performing cutting-edge research, the students participate in various career development workshops. The culmination of the program is a poster session where the students present the result of the research they conducted under the supervision of their very dedicated mentors.
Although mentors and projects change every year, here is the list of the posters that were presented last year:
- Gavin Black from North Carolina State University presented his work “Discovery of Human Glucose Transporter (GLUT) Specific Inhibitors” performed within the group of Dr. Jun-Yong Choe from the Department of Chemistry and the East Carolina Diabetes and Obesity Institute, East Carolina University.
- April Brown from Pitt Community College presented her work “Relative Quantification of Neurotransmitters in Spinal Cord Tissue Using MALDI-TOF/MALDI-IMS” performed within the group of Dr. Kimberly Kew from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University.
- George Cherry from Pitt Community College presented his work “The Role of Self- Efficacy in Mental Health Differences Between Adolescents and Young Adults with Epilepsy” performed within the group of Dr. Aimee W. Smith from the Department of Psychology, East Carolina University.
