Jan. 13 – Ledonia Wright Cultural Center (LWCC) Spring Open House. Enjoy food, fun, games; and meet the staff of LWCC. #ShadesOfCommunity. | 1pm-4pm, LWCC

 

Jan. 21 – “Drumbeat for Justice Moves On: A Contemporary Panel Discussion on Civil Rights.” Panelists will delve deeply into societal concerns surrounding civil rights and justice. The panel will not only discuss what occurred in the past but will also provide indicators on present day AND future possibilities. | 6pm-7pm, Main Campus Student Center, Room 249.

 

Jan. 21 – Balm in Gilead: Gospel Concert. As a part of the week of events celebrating and honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, several gospel choirs will be providing several selections. | 7pm-8:30pm, Main Campus Student Center, Black Box Theatre.

 

Jan. 22 – MLK Celebration Speaker: April Ryan. Join the LWCC in celebrating the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as we hear from speaker April Ryan. Ms. Ryan serves as a White House Correspondent who has a unique vantage point as the only black female reporter covering urban issues from the White House – a position she has held since the Clinton era. Her position as a White House Correspondent has afforded her unusual insight into the racial sensitivities, issues, and attendant political struggles of our nation’s last presidents. April can be seen almost daily on CNN as a political analyst. Sponsors include: the Ledonia Wright Cultural Center, Office for Equity & Diversity, Student Activities Board, The Honors College, The School of Communications, Student Government Association, Off Campus Student Services and Student Involvement & Leadership. | 6pm-7:30pm, Main Campus Student Center, Ballrooms A & B.

 

Jan. 23 – In Honor of a King Step Show. Join us as we continue to celebrate Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first African-American, intercollegiate Greek-lettered fraternity. On this night we recognize and celebrate his contributions to the Divine Nine with a step show. | 6:30pm-7:30pm, MSC, Hendrix Theatre

 

Jan. 27 – Diversity Dialogue Series: Code Switching. This is a monthly dialogue series focusing on current diversity/social justice related topics. January’s topic will be about code switching. Upcoming topics located here: link. | 3pm-4pm, LWCC.

 

Jan. 27 – Barbershop Talks. Barbershop Talks is a leadership series that helps male identified students from underrepresented backgrounds connect and share experiences. Seeking to mirror the realism experienced in a traditional barbershop, it provides a place for conversation and dialogue about the challenges and resources available to males of color. This is a recurring series hosted every other Monday. | 6pm-7pm, LWCC.

 

Jan. 28 – Reel Talk: “All in My Family”. All in My Family: after starting a family of his very own in American, a gay filmmaker documents his loving, traditional Chinese family’s process of acceptance. | 6pm-7:30pm, LWCC

 

Jan. 29 – Race & Politics. This is a program designed to analyze the role that race plays in our election process- in particular, consideration for what it takes for candidates of color to run. #ShadesOfCommunity | 6pm-7:30pm, Main Campus Student Center, Black Box Theatre.
