Engineering Research Opportunity: Writing Analysis for Summer Research Program

Sent on behalf of Dr. Stephanie George, Associate Professor of Engineering

Research Project

The Department of Engineering has hosted a summer research program for undergraduates for the last 6 years.  Program assessment has shown pre and post program gender differences in self reported skill levels. The objective of this project is to analyze writing samples to provide insight and context to our assessment findings.  The student would analyze de-identified letters of reference to identify themes and organize a reader session to independently rate the letters. The overall goal is to better understand gender differences in identity and perception of skills.

The ideal candidate is a freshman, sophomore, or junior majoring in English, Sociology (or other social science), Gender studies minor, or STEM field. The candidate must have a passion for writing and reading and an interest in gender inequities in STEM.

Interested students should contact Dr. Stephanie George ASAP to discuss the submission of an URCA proposal.

Thanks,

Dr. George
