The Honors College Student Council is proud to partner with the EC Scholars Roundtable for the Fall Day of Service 2020 Event, the Race to Embrace Race Virtual 5K.

What is Books that Embrace Race?

The purpose of this event is to fundraise for the Books that Embrace Race initiative, which aims to raise money to purchase children’s books that feature people of color as the heroes or protagonists. These books will be distributed to multiple Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plains, Little Free Libraries, and the ECU Community School. Children’s books are essential tools in navigating how issues of race impact young children and the development of their identity. It is important that minority children see themselves represented in different roles that defy stereotypes. These books not only initiate critical conversations on race and racism, but many seek to empower our youth to participate in the ongoing movement for racial justice by highlighting resilience and activism in age-appropriate ways. We believe in change for a better and more equitable world for the generations that follow ours. Children’s books are a great start!

This event will also satisfy the expectation for each Honors students to be involved with bettering their community by creating positive change for a positive world.

How do you get involved?
