2021 Marian Drane Graham Scholars Program

The 2021 Marian Drane Graham Scholars program will most likely be remote during the summer of 2021, but will be taking place.   The program is paid.  ($2400 + housing if in person  or $3400 if remote)

The Marian Drane Graham Scholars Program is an eight-week immersive and experiential summer program (May 22-July 16) designed to provide students the opportunity to develop leadership skills and gain a better understanding of key issues facing public higher education. The program is open to rising juniors and seniors attending one of the sixteen constituent institutions of higher education in the University of North Carolina. Scholars will be mentored by UNC leadership.  Scholars will either meet with elected officials and staff in person or via ZOOM depending on the situation with COVID-19.

Scholars will also have the opportunity to work in a state government agency approximately thirty-two hours per week to further their knowledge of how higher education impacts the state of North Carolina.  Previous assignments include:  NC Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Department of Public Instruction, Governor’s NC Business Committee for Education, etc.  Finally, the Scholars will work on and present a capstone project on a topic of their choosing with the approval of the program supervisor. Through these experiences, it is anticipated that each scholar will develop a deep appreciation for the complexities of higher education and state government.
