Aug. 23 — The Dr. Jesse R. Peel LGBTQ Center officially opens at 8 a.m. for the fall semester!

September

Sept. 2 — Dr. Jesse R. Peel LGBTQ Center Fall 2021 Welcome and Social
- 5:30 p.m., Main Campus Student Center Ballroom
Sept. 13 — El Baile de los 41 (Dance of the 41)
- Inspired by a true story, El Baile de los 41 is the forbidden-love story between a politician and a lawyer that became a society scandal that roiled early 20th-century Mexico. Presented in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. In Spanish with English subtitles. 6 p.m., Black Box Theatre
Sept. 15 — Coffee House
- An informal weekly gathering for students to share, to learn and to grow. 6 p.m., Dr. Jesse R. Peel LGBTQ Center Conference Room
Sept. 16 — Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) Discussion Group
- QTPOC offers an opportunity to build community and explore the issues impacting students at the intersections of race, ethnicity, sexuality, and gender. We welcome anyone who identifies as African American, Latino/a/x, Indigenous, Asian American, Native American, multiracial and LGBTQ+ to attend our first monthly meeting. 6 p.m., Main Campus Student Center, Room 211.
Sept. 20 — Bi and Proud
- A panel discussion presented as part of Bisexual Awareness Week. 6 p.m., Main Campus Student Center, Room 249
Sept. 29 — Fall Into Poetry with Catherine Carter and Wayne Johns
- Presented in partnership with the ECU Contemporary Writers Series with additional support provided by the North Carolina Literary Review, the Gender Studies program and the Department of English. 6 p.m., Black Box Theatre

Oct. 4 — True Colors Opening Reception
- True Colors is a photo exhibit presented in celebration of LGBTQ History Month. 6 p.m., Dr. Jesse R. Peel LGBTQ Center
Oct. 5 — Coming Out Stories
- An evening of personal stories shared as part of LGBTQ History Month, 6 p.m., Black Box Theatre
Oct. 7 — National Coming Out Day
- A celebration of pride for the LGBTQ and ally community. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cupola
Oct. 18 — How to Survive a Plague
- The Academy Award-nominated documentary charts the rage, fear, fiery determination and finally triumph of the citizen-activists who battled indifference and hostility in the early years of the AIDS epidemic. 6 p.m., Black Box Theatre
Oct. 25 — Understanding Asexuality
- A presentation with a panel discussion as part of Asexual Awareness Week. 6 p.m., Main Campus Student Center, Room 253
Oct. 26 — Intersex Awareness Day
- Join us as we commemorate the internationally observed awareness day highlighting human rights issues faced by intersex people and amplifying intersex voices. 6 p.m., Main Campus Student Center, Room 253

Nov. 8 — Leitis in Waiting
- This 2018 documentary is the story of an intrepid group of transgender women fighting a rising tide of religious fundamentalism in their highly religious and conservative South Pacific kingdom. Presented as part of Transgender Awareness Month. 6 p.m., Black Box Theatre
Nov. 18 — Transgender Day of Remembrance
- A campus commemoriation of the international observance honoring the lives lost to anti-transgender violence. 5:30 p.m., Green Room at the Croatan

Dec. 1 — World AIDS Day
- A luncheon commemorating the first-ever global health day established in 1988. Noon, Main Campus Student Center, Room 249
Dec. 7 — Stress Relief Study Break
- A reading day event offering healthy stress management and wellness activities. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dr. Jesse R. Peel LGBTQ Center
