Gender to a Tea: Oct. 27

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 27, when Dr. Sara Bryson (Department of Criminal Justice) will present “Juvenile Waiver Decisions: Does Gender ‘Matter’?” as part of Gender to a Tea. The presentation will take place at 1 pm on WebEx.

Research has consistently found the presence of extra-legal disparities in juvenile justice decision-making, but less is known about the combined effects of a juvenile’s gender and race on the decision to transfer youth to adult court.

This talk outlines findings from a study in one Northeast state from 2004-2014 and demonstrates that while gender does “matter,” there are also important implications for the combined effects of gender and race.

Gender to a Tea is a speakers’ series designed to help gender-focused researchers by fielding questions from attendees about the presenters’ ongoing, unpublished research.

The series – which is free and open to the public – is sponsored by the Gender Studies Program, Gender Studies Executive Board, and Harriot College of Arts and Sciences.

Individuals requesting accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) should contact the ADA Coordinator at least 48 hours prior to the event at (252) 737-1018 / ada-coordinator@ecu.edu.
