"Cooked" film viewing and panel discussion - Feb. 8

Dr. Beth Bee will be facilitating a panel discussion about environmental racism, racial capitalism, and urban planning following the first film, Cooked: Survival by Zip Code. Panelists will include:

  • Dr. Anuradha Mukherji — Geography, Planning, and Environment
  • Dr. Jarvis Hargrove — History and African and African American Studies
  • Dr. Joseph Reid — College of Business

The film is a “social autopsy” of the 1995 Chicago heat wave that killed 739 primarily elderly, low-income, African Americans. It has resonance with issues of environmental and social justice, community and city planning, climate change, political economy, and health geographies! Don’t miss it!!
