What is one of your favorite memories from ECU?
I have so many great memories from ECU, but one of my fondest memories was speaking at the first Honors College Commencement Ceremony. We were all ecstatic to graduate as the inaugural class, and I truly enjoyed celebrating the accomplishment with my friends, classmates, and faculty.
What did you do in the year immediately after graduating?
I started my first job as a registered nurse at Atrium Health Pineville nearly two months after graduating. I have been working at the same hospital for almost seven years!
What is your current job (or degree program if still in school)?
I am currently in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program at ECU. I will be graduating in May 2021!
Provide a brief summary of your career since graduation.
I began my nursing career on a medical telemetry unit, where I cared for patients with various backgrounds and medical conditions. I have had many incredible opportunities at this position, such as serving on committees, implementing quality improvement projects, and precepting newly hired registered nurses. I still work on the same unit because I enjoy working with this patient population, and I appreciate the dedication, teamwork, and selflessness my co-workers demonstrate every day.
How did your Honors College experience contribute to your success?
The Honors College opened doors for me that I did not even know were available. I was encouraged to step out of my comfort zone and push myself to be the best person and student possible. The Honors College reinforced the importance of networking, and I am grateful for the faculty as they genuinely cared about my success. I also appreciate the lifelong friendships I developed with my classmates.
What advice do you have for current students?
I think my piece of advice revolves around making the most out of your undergraduate years. College is a time for personal growth, opportunity, and education, so explore and enjoy everything ECU has to offer!
Did you study abroad in college? If so, where and what did you like most about the experience?
I did not study abroad in college, but I wish I had. Several friends studied abroad and had incredible experiences!
