Ford appointed associate dean, director of Brinkley-Lane Scholars program
Dr. Katherine Ford has been appointed as the associate dean of the Honors College and director of the Brinkley-Lane Scholars Program, effective September 1, 2023. In this role, she provides leadership and coordination for the Brinkley-Lane Scholars Program and the Honors College’s academics.
Dr. Ford has been an important partner of the Honors College and Brinkley-Lane Scholars Program over the past few years. She has served as a senior faculty fellow, chaired interview committees for Selection Sunday, taught the freshman Honors colloquia, the first year Brinkley-Lane Scholars seminar, and the sophomore Brinkley-Lane Scholars research internship. She has participated in numerous Honors College living learning experiences and led a study abroad trip to Spain.
Prior to her new role with the Honors College, Katie served as chair and professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and has taught at ECU since 2006. This year, she became the Linda E. McMahon Distinguished Professor in Foreign Languages. She is an accomplished scholar and administrator with multiple publications in her research area of Modern Latin American literature, concentrating on theater and performance of the twentieth century. She is author of The Theater of Revisions in the Hispanic Caribbean (2017 Palgrave Macmillan) and Politics and Violence in Cuban and Argentine Theater (2010 Palgrave Macmillan). She is currently working on an engaged research project that aims to increase enrollment from the local Latino/Hispanic community in higher education.
With her first-hand experience of the many facets of the Honors College and Brinkley-Lane Scholars program, I am excited to have her join the Honors College team and confident that she is the right choice to serve as the Associate Dean and Director of the Brinkley-Lane Scholars. She will be a true asset for our students.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Ford to the Honors College.
