Brittany Thompson
Brittany Thompson received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from North Carolina State University in 2001. After graduation, she worked in pathology research at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2007, Brittany completed an Associates in Photographic Technology from Randolph Community College. In May of 2014, she received a master’s in communication from East Carolina University.
She currently is a teaching instructor at East Carolina University in the School of Communication. Courses of instruction include Introduction to Communication Theory, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Business and Professional Communication, Public Speaking, Communication Senior Capstone, Internship-for-Credit courses, and EC Scholars Leadership Internships.
Ms. Thompson’s teaching and creative interest centers around professional readiness in college students. Her focus is on resume building and branding, networking, interviewing, professional writing and communication, and internships.
In addition to teaching, Brittany is the internship coordinator and digital media manager for the School of Communication. Out of all of her responsibilities, engaging with students is the highlight of her career.
In Spring 2019, Brittany received ECU’s Robert L. Jones Teaching Award for excellence in engaged teaching. In Fall of 2018, she received the first Faculty Impact Award from ECU Career Services for her dedicated work to preparing students for careers after college. In Spring 2021, Brittany received the Board of Governor’s Distinguished Professor of Teaching Award. During the 2020-2021 academic year, Brittany served as faculty fellow for the ECU Office for Faculty Excellence and focused on issues surrounding teaching and faculty in fixed-term positions.
Brittany resides in Farmville, NC, with her husband, son, daughter, two cats, and a tripod doggie.
