Dr. Jarvis Hargrove

Dr. Jarvis Hargrove is an Associate Professor in the Department of History and also serves as the Director of the African & African American Studies Program.  Dr. Hargrove has taught HNRS 2000 for the Honors College since Fall 2020.  He is from North Carolina and holds a PhD in History from Howard University in Washington, DC.

Since coming to ECU in Fall 2019, Dr. Hargrove has published numerous scholarly articles and a book.  He has presented his research at several national conferences since coming to ECU.  Further he has received two grants, one to study African American emigration overseas to Liberia and a second help expand the Digital Library on American Slavery access to sources in Pitt, Greene, and Edgecombe Counties.  Dr. Hargrove will also serve as the 2022-2023 President of the North Carolina Association of Historians.
